2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Management Change Comes After Mixed Feedback
The new appointee steps into the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' lackluster early showing last fall.
On Wednesday, the company's top executive David Ismailer updated employees about this decision through an internal memo, which highlighted that playtesting had indicated the need for a clearer direction.
The president noted that the team is now reimagining Project Ethos with a refreshed focus, aiming to satisfy community desires.
A Pattern of Key Recruitment
The news echoes a comparable step taken by the publisher in the summer, when they brought on an industry veteran from Blizzard to assist with the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the entire content from Ismailer's communication:
Team—
I know you all just completed your gathering - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Previously I sent you all a update, I stated the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative designers we have had the chance to work with - and we’re excited for that partnership to continue.”
Given your hard work and versatility, especially over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.
The gamer responses from last autumn’s Project ETHOS playtest was enlightening. It affirmed the appeal of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had refinements needed. It uncovered the need for a clearer identity.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You embraced the feedback to consideration and reimagined Project ETHOS with a refreshed direction - one that’s ready to achieve its promise to our players.
The trust in Project ETHOS increases every day. To further the incredible advancement you’ve made, It is a pleasure to announce the new hire as the latest Lead of 31st Union. After some time of conversations, Ben starts with us on Monday, October 20.
Ben’s management and background in the competitive gaming field is considerable, having spent the past decade and a half producing and managing some of the most popular titles in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, Apex Legends.
